I almost bought this shirt in Branson yesterday. But I figured my first couple of stops at Banana Republic and Ann Taylor had already put me over my limit. Found some super cute things for the kids and got an awesome deal on some jeans for Lance at the Levi's store. Even found a christmas present. I went with some of the women from our Sunday School class. We had a blast and I really enjoyed getting to know them better! Already looking forward to next year's trip! LOL!

We had an absolutely amazing time in Hawaii. Logan spent his first birthday there, Lexa and Logan flew in an airplane and swam in the ocean for the first time. We saw so many great and wonderful things: USS Arizona/ Pearl Harbor Memorial, toured the USS Missouri {stood on the spot where the Japanese surrendered WW2}, Lance hiked to the top of Diamond Head {inactive volcano & landmark of Waikiki Beach}, visited the Waikiki Aqarium, drove around the entire island and visited the famous North Shore, saw a green sea turtle {Honu} in the wild sunning himself on a beach on the North Shore, saw the Holona Blow Hole in action, Rabbit Island, visited the Honolulu Zoo, hiked up to Moana Water Fall {Lance could have killed me}, became our own family photographer with the help of a tripod and remote {to much amusement to other morning beach goers}, went to Sea Life Park - Hawaii and saw amazing Ocean Life and Dolphin shows, visited the Punchbowl {National Cemetary of the Pacific}, played on the beach, played on the beach, played on the beach, did some shopping to celebrate my new job {yeah ;)}, and toured the US Army Museum on Ft. DeRussy.

Weird Fact: Lost count how many Japanese tourists took pictutes of Logan. Why? Most have never seen a red-headed blue-eyed baby.

Vacation was awesome. Traveling via airplane in and out of airports all day with young children, not so awesome. Totally worth it to be with the 3 people you love most in the world and visiting the best place on the planet.

I always would watch the olympics and dream of being a gymnast as a child. Having never gone to gymnastics classes myself, I've always wanted to have that for my daugter (or son, if he so chooses). Since Lexa is potty trained now (YAY!!!!) I thought it was a great opportunity to reward our hard work with some gymnastics classes. I hoped that she would enjoy them as much as I would enjoy them for her. :)) We went down to the dancewear shop on the square, The Red Shoe, and picked up a super cute leotard, went home and got ready for our class at Aspire Athletics. As soon as that leotard was on her she was strutting around and we worked on little somersaults and got ready for class. And she LOVED it! She listened very well to the instructor, and had a blast the whole hour of the class. We are both looking forward to next week's class!!!! Yay Gymnastics!!!

Gosh we had just a wonderful time at our 4th of July party this year. 35 in the group picture and there were 4 missing. Yesterday afternoon I upgraded my Blackberry Software. I didn't realize how much the upgrade added to the whole crackberry experience! Now I can take videos with my phone!!! And short videos can be sent to the blog with my phone. Like this one. This is a quick view of my very messy desk. I've been slowly cleaning out my office, but haven't been to enthused about it.

Back to the new software. What prompted the upgrade was that I finally discovered Pandora and have been using it at work and decided to try to access it from my phone. When I did that it said that my device needed the newest version of software and to upgrade to get it. So I did it yesterday at McDonalds. {Mcdonald's with wifi because I use my phone to connect to the internet and I couldn't do that to upgrade my phone.} The new software adds a video camera, a more enhanced Facebook, Pandora {internet radio for FREE}, a better music player that I haven't used yet..., Word to go, Slideshow to go, and probably more that I haven't found yet.

I have meant to do more on this sooner, but obviously that hasn't happened. Here are 5 more items from The 100 for you to ponder...

6. Bangles - Nina says no fewer than 6 at a time. I don't even own 6; I'm now going to be on the look out for some nice silver toned ones like these.

7. Belts - The perfect example. Enough said. Sarah Jessica Parker nicknamed it "Roger" because she wore it so much in the movie. You can get Roger here for $120. I think I'll stick to my Target studded plether belt for $14.99 :) I've learned to like a belted shirt or sweater. Nina says a wide belt around the slimmest part of your waist creates an instant hourglass shape.

8. Bikini - Nina says the key to a bikini is confidence. It doesn't require a perfect body, just a perfect outlook. And I also think you should stick to solid neutral colors so that all your accessories, coverups, and beach bag will coordinate without a whole lot of effort. And like many other things, buy a good quality one that will last and you won't regret it. Fun Fact: The bikini got its name because it debuted during the same time that nuclear testing began on Bikini Atoll.
French designers dubbed their creation the bikini as they thought it would receive an explosive reaction.

9. Blackberry - I completely agree. I love my blackberry and think the iphones are the devil's spawn. Way too proprietary for me, but that is another post entirely. Blackberries are: a phone, a calendar, a phonebook, the internet, an MP3 player, a note pad, a to do list, a camera, some take videos (mine doesn't but i can watch videos), alarm clock, calculator, games, gps, voice recorder, and much more with downloaded applications. I also facebook and blog and twitter from my blackberry.

10. Black Opaque Tights - are essential for layers and fall dresses or slacks. In the book, Nina says Wolford makes the best. Here for $52. I've read that they will last you forever.

Facebook is the New Blog

Ok, so I need a little feedback here. I have started facebooking, and since then my New Years Resolution to blog everyday has gone down the toilet. Facebook has been accomplishing everything that I aimed to do with my blog and more. I like the way I can personalize my blog but I get more feedback and make more contact with people with facebook. I feel like I am being repetitive with my blog and facebook. The whole point of putting my life online is so I can keep my friend and family up to date in an efficient manner. So maybe I just won't blog as often, and will reserve it for the longer narratives. I hate to give up my blog comepletely because I feel like its "mine" and I have put a lot of time into it! Heck, ikve been blogging about my family since 2005!!!

Health Experts Answer Swine Flu Questions

Here's the email Kidd got this morning, reportedly from a doctor in East Texas:
After I returned from a public health meeting yesterday with community leaders and school officials in Comal County , Heather suggested I send an update to everyone, because what we are hearing privately from the CDC and Health Department is so different from what you are hearing in the media. Some of you know some or maybe all of this, but I will just list what facts I know.
The virus is infectious for about 2 days prior to symptom onset
Virus sheds more than 7 days after symptom onset (possibly as long as 9 days) (this is unusual)
Since it is such a novel (new) virus, there is no "herd immunity," so the "attack rate" is very high. This is the percentage of people who come down with a virus if exposed. Almost everyone who is exposed to this virus will become infected, though not all will be symptomatc. That is much higher than seasonal flu, which averages 10-15%. The "clinical attack rate" may be around 40-50%. This is the number of people who show symptoms. This is a huge number. It is hard to convey the seriousness of this.
The virulence (deadliness) of this virus is as bad here as in Mexico , and there are folks on ventilators here in the US , right now. This has not been in the media, but a 23 month old near here is fighting for his life, and a pregnant woman just south of San Antonio is fighting for her life. In Mexico , these folks might have died already, but here in the US , folks are getting Tamiflu or Relenza quickly, and we have ready access to ventilators. What this means is that within a couple of weeks, regional hospitals will likely become overwhelmed.
Some of the kids with positive cases in Comal County had more than 70 contacts before diagnosis.
There are 10-25 times more actual cases (not "possible" cases -- actual), than what is being reported in the media. The way they fudge on reporting this is that it takes 3 days to get the confirmatory nod from the CDC on a given viral culture, but based on epidemiological grounds, we know that there are more than 10 cases for each "confirmed" case right now.
During the night, we crossed the threshold for the definition of a WHO, Phase 6 global pandemic. This has not happened in any of our lifetimes so far. We are in uncharted territory.
I expect President Obama will declare an emergency sometime in the next 72-96 hours. This may not happen, but if it doesn't, I will be surprised. When this happens, all public gathering will be cancelled for 10 days.
I suggest all of us avoid public gatherings. Outdoor activities are not as likely to lead to infection. It is contained areas and close contact that are the biggest risk.
Tamiflu is running out. There is a national stockpile, but it will have to be carefully managed, as it is not enough to treat the likely number of infections when this is full-blown. I don't think there is a big supply of Relenza, but I do not know those numbers. If I had to choose, I would take Relenza, as I think it gets more drug to t he affected tissue than Tamiflu.
You should avoid going to the ER if you think you have been exposed or are symptomatic. ER's south of here are becoming overwhelmed -- and I mean that -- already. It is coming in waves, but the waves are getting bigger.
It appears that this flu produces a distinctive "hoarseness" in many victims. The symptoms, in general, match other flu's; namely, sore throat, body aches, headache, cough, and fever. Some have all these symptoms, while others may have only one or two.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine -- a nutritional supplement available at the health food store or Wimberley Pharmacy, has been shown to prevent or lessen the severity of influenza. I suggest 1200mg, twice a day for adults, and 600mg twice a day in kids over 12. It would be hard to get kids under 12 to take it, but you could try op ening the capsules and putting it on yogurt. For 40 pounds and up, 300-600 mg twice a day, for less than 40 pounds, half that.
Oscillococinum, a homeopathic remedy, has been vindicated as quite effective in a large clinical trial in Europe , with an H1N1 variant. You can buy this at Hill Country Natural Foods, or the Wimberley Pharmacy.
As with anything distributed by email on the 'net, this should be viewed with a large dose of skepticism.

New Mom Diet Tip #1

Those little plastic baby food containers make great 100 calorie packages. 20 almonds = 100 calories, 12 TLC crackers = 100 calories. I've been trying very hard to eat 5 small meals a day. Portion control is my biggest problem, so quantifying my small meal is important. Snacking is my 2nd biggest problem. When I think of a diet tip for that one I'll let you know. Now I need to go and chug a liter of water cause I'm behind...

I've got some sick kids. It all started a couple of weeks ago. Lexa got sick - probably something that started from allergies - and ran a fever for a day, but then seemed to get much better but remained to have a cough. Logan had a couple days of a fever but tylenol did the trick and he seemed to be on the mend with some congestion and coughing remaining. Then last week I felt like the Grim Reaper was knocking on my door. Typical flu symptoms, achey, fever, dizzy, head cold, pounding head ache. I went to work last thursday and probably shouldn't have. I holed myself up in my office and took it pretty easy. Friday I took the kids to daycare and went back home for some rest.

Monday brought a big suprise. I was feeling quite better with just the remaining runny nose and cough. Logan had his 6 month dr's appt and just to make a long story short has 2 very bad ear infections and pneumonia and thrush. His blood oxygen was so low (88) that he was minutes away from being admitted to the hospital. I'm sure that if his appointment was for 3pm (like usual) instead of 9am he would have been. After 2 breathing treatments, a shot of antibiotics, a dose of steroids, and chest x-rays his blood oxygen got up to 96, barely high enough to go home. So we been doing breathing treatments and lots of medicine to get my little bubba back to his normal self.

But that's what worries me most. He didn't act like he was in any discomfort at all! He was still playing and smiling and talking and sleeping like usual. Dr. says from now on {at least for the next 12 months} if he has cold symptoms that don't improve within 3 days bring him in because he is more likely to develop pneumonia again since there will be a weak spot in his lungs for the next year. I yI yI.

Oh, and Lexa has an ear infection and I have 2 ear infections. We are all on antibiotics. EXCEPT Lance. He has somehow dodged this whole thing!

Some wisterias for one reason or another don't bloom well. We know this variety does because it was in full effect ay my aunts house when we swiped some of the seed pods. I joined facebook Sunday night because at the camping trip I remembered a conversations that started "facebook or myspace." It was unanimous for facebook so I just had to find out what it was all about. Like I said, I joined Sunday night. Stayed up late setting things up and adding friends and downloading the application onto my blackberry, combining my now to very addictive habits. Monday I got to work and facebooked myself into a comma on my blackberry. Tuesday, discovered that somehow our firewall computer Nazis had let facebook in to all of us pawns and did my share of adding friends, looking at pictures, reading walls. Tuesday night I stayed up to midnight looking for eggs, adding friends, messaging. Hey, don't judge. I found my best friend from HS last night! She said she has been looking for me on facebook since she joined. So I'm begining to wonder what I did before facebook, but all I need to do is look around the house to see what it was that I did. Pick up toys, was dishes, clean the kitchen, put away laundry, play with kids, potty train Lexa. So I think the initial facination should wear off soon and things might get back to normal with some regular facebook monitoring and friend adding. Who knows I may get burnt out and go for months without doing facebook. Doubt that though - its on my phone! It sends alerts to my screen (like text message alerts) when I get a new notification on facebook.

PBC was prettly slim this year on attendance but not on fun! Fryday was great as everyone rolled into the old campground and got set up. The weather was perfect - we couldn't have asked for better temperatures for camping. The fire was blazing and there were good times had by all. We picked up three hungry and "thirsty" college kids hiking through. If the canoers run out of drink this trip it will be those guys' fault! Nathan and I taught eachother some gang signs and even Greg stayed up late this year! The put in Saturday morning was at Kyle's and the water level was perfect for floating. Right in the middle of the green mark on the river level gauge there at Kyles. I wish we could have floated this year, but with a 2 1/2 year old and a 6 month old it makes it a little harder to be away from home at night. Grammy and Papa had quite the night Fryday. Buck, I owe you for the Tylenol PM. Funkhousers, Congratulations on the PBC baby- the PBC missed you more than you will ever know! Becks, Nutz, Joel, Moix, Daily, and many more that couldn't make it... we missed you too! I'm looking forward to more camping and canoeing with you all!!

Time to shed those winter blahs and get out side and enjoy the sunshine and flowers! We have lots of things blooming around the house - I haven't even taken pictures of yet.

I'm trying to shed my blahs right now. Spring has brought me some news that I'm still not sure how I feel about yet. Is there a word that means sad and glad? Slad? I'm slad.

Hope all of you are enjoying our spring! Hopefully the ice storms are gone and the cold weather will be leaving soon and we can enjoy the greenery!

I am going to be working on my rain dance so that we will be able to float the Buffalo River next weekend! Looking forward to that Fo Sho! PBC time again! The shirts are wicked good if I do say so myself.

Here's another pic of Lexa in her new glasses. This was taken on way from the dr.'s office. She looks so sad, but really she's just sleepy.

This picture is from Tuesday. We had some really nice weather and had to go outside. Logan hadn't been feeling or sleeping well the night before so we stayed home. He's been teething, and isn't eating very well but is hungry and can't sleep. Baby Tylenol helps some.
I just found the coolest place on the web. www.KiddieRecords.com You must check it out. I have found out that there are a lot of really neat things on the internet for free for kids. Music, Stories, Poetry, pictures to print and color. This website is awesome. And someone has put a lot of effort into providing some free childrens stories in MP3 format.

Pink Glasses

Lexa got her glasses yesterday. They are really cute dark pink molded plastic frames.

She doesn't like to wear them. Big Surprise. She pulls them off, or if she does wear them, she's looking over the top of them half the time. I know that they aren't comfortable for her but I hope she adjusts to them and wears them better. We have a check up with the eye doctor in a month to see if the glasses are working...

Last night Lance and I constantly said, "Put your glasses on."

Raaby Showre & Blue Skies

A great time was had by all in Little Rock and Pea Ridge. Cat and Amy got lots of cute and handy things at the baby shower! I'm very excited for them both. Blu did his best to stay out of trouble this weekend and kept us all entertained. It was a good time had by all and I didn't even try to fight anyone this time. Just wait until the PBC!

Lance kept himself VERY busy. He got the play set installed in the backyard this weekend. Friday through Sunday he worked hard to make a play area for the kids! Lexa LOVES it already. We got the wooden set used so he had to recondition it by making some repairs, power washing the wood and putting a new stain on it. And he preped the site by leveling up a spot behind the house on the hill, bringing in some gravel, doing a little retaining work. I'm very excited to have a bunch of kids out there playing on it. I'm glad I have such a hardworking and caring husband. Thank you Lance!!!

Accommodative Esotropia
This refers to a crossing of the eyes ("esotropia") caused by farsightedness. Accommodative esotropia is a type of strabismus. Strabismus refers to any misalignment of the eyes.
Children who are farsighted easily and automatically focus on objects at distance and near through "accommodation". Accommodation refers to the contraction of a small muscle inside the eye to cause the natural lens in the eye to change its shape and allow images to focus properly on the back surface of the eye. As a result, a child who is farsighted usually does not have blurred vision. However, in some children who are farsighted, this accommodative effort is associated with a reflex crossing of the eyes. Hence the term, "accommodative esotropia."
Accommodative esotropia can begin anywhere from 4 months to 6 years of age. The usual age of onset is between 2 and 3 years of age. Source.

So are you wondering why I care about this?

Lexa has it. I took her to the pediatrician on Tuesday for a list of things that were nagging me and got refered to a pediatric opthamologist. And Accommodative Esotropia is the diagnosis. The problem is that sometimes when she looks as far as a distance of about 3 or 4 feet her left eye turns in. The first time I saw her do this I was really taken aback.

Lexa got a glasses perscription and should get them fitted sometime next week. I'm kinda sad that she has to have the encumberance of eye glasses at such a young age - 2.5 years old, but glad that we caught this early enough that it's only glasses.

The final movie trailer was released Wednesday and I just found out. Oh My! I saw this and HAD to post it since today is a blog kind of day.

If you remember I found out last year about this movie and was so thrilled I named my first born son after its main character. (I keed, I keed) Logan is a great name that just happens to be Wolverine's name.

I'm a picture kind of person. Just ask Lance. You won't find me with my nose in a book very often. My blog is filled with pictures and not much fluf (otherwise knows as those pesky words.) So if a picture says a thousand words, then how many does a video say? I got this video from my cousin in an email today and it is really insightful. I know I promised to stop posting political stuff but it's in my blood.

So I just have to add that when and who thought it would be a good idea to start printing money that we don't have gold to back? And isn't that called counterfeiting? All I can say is invest wisely because soon our money won't be worth the paper it's printed on. Buy Land - you can't just make more of that and the value always rises. Anyone else have any ideas that individuals can do to protect themselves from Mr. Obama?

And how is that I didn't know about the Drug War in Mexico until just this week?

Ok. We have the nightstands, but not the bed yet. The dresser and nightstands were in stock and were delivered last week. But they told us the bed would have to be ordered and would take 4-6 weeks. I can't wait!

Sort of related is that I won an hour of an interior decorators time in a silent auction the weekend before last. I am so excited about this because I have dreamed of having someone who is professionally trained to come into my house and help me put on some finishing touches. I've got the basic color palette of the house down and I am very happy with it. I just need some help with accents and accessories!

Awwe... sleeping babies are ALWAYS cute. Logan was such a good baby at the birthday party. He is teething right now and has a hard time taking a bottle unless he is just really hungry.

Lexa is helping Wes open his birthday presents. I remember him helping her at her first birthday party when she really didn't know what was going on. They had SO much fun Sunday chasing eachother around the house and playing with toys.
I just can't wait until all 6 kids are able to play together. My two, my cousin's two and my sister's two! All 6 are within 3 years of eachother! We've been passing the baby clothes back and forth like nobody's business!!!
