Check this out. Lance had to go to work yesterday morning -but not to do any engineering - to trim trees. The newspaper wrote an article about the conditions in Rogers and what the city was doing about it. Check it out. http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2009/01/28/news/012909bzrogerscity.txt

Homemade Bread

I tried my hand at homemade bread again and it turned out so so. I'll be trying it again and seeing if I can do any better. It just wasn't fluffy enough. Lexa liked it though.

Well, someone likes my bread...

First blog with my new phone

Well we are at home again today because of the icy roads and also because Lexa is not feeling well. She's been really congested and started running a fever last night. Poor girl. What makes it really bad is that she does not like to take medicine, we usually sneak it into a cup of juice but if she won't drink her juice I have to wrap her up and try to get it in her mouth while she is crying and spitting it back at me. Well it actually wasn't that bad last night - she didn't spit it out this time.

1st Tooth, Frozen Trees & Free Dr. Pepper

on Wednesday, January 28, 2009

This little guy isn't even 4 months old yet and he has his first tooth! Amazing! You can see it in this picture pretty well, and the one next to it is coming in too. He is such a trooper because I couldn't even tell that his gums were bothering him and I just noticed the little chicklet in there Monday night! This is very early for a first tooth; between 4 to 7 months is the norm. (He did not like me taking this picture and i felt like a bad mommy after I blinded him with the flash. Yeah, memories!!...)

I thought this was a really cool picture of the trees behind our house. We got hit by a really nasty ice storm that began Monday afternoon. When i was driving home around 1pm I saw a lot of slipping and sliding and cars off the road. Very scary. I've been home ever since. I have more pictures I plan on posting later. Our power was out yesterday from about 10:30am to 8:30pm. A lot of cities around here are still out of power. The city i work in is still out, and not expected to be back in until Saturday. Wow! There was a fatal accident Monday afternoon here in town also.

Click the can for the link to get your free Diet Dr. Pepper coupon! Awesome! I found this on http://www.slickdeals.net/ ; that's where I find all the good ones!!!

The One Hundred for an Ozark Girl, 1 to 5

This is going to be the 1st of a series of 50 posts. I have read "The One Hundred, A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own" by Nina Garcia and it's almost like a reference book for me. I have read it, googled items, purchased some, and am wanting many more. I'm going to back up a little bit and say that I am a Project Runway addict and think that Tim Gunn is brilliant and Nina Garcia needs her own show. I have been feeling compelled to write on my blog about these 100 items, not sure if I should venture away from family stuff (I've removed a lot of political commentary because of this), but I wanted to share with my friends and any stray blog reader what I think are classic items that will always look good and help you feel better about yourself. BTW, I love everyone's comments and would appreciate more especially your opionions on the 100!

I think Nina, and Tim Gunn for that matter, come from a very urban background like New York City, and their views and selections definitely reflect that. Us Southern Girls need our own list! Forget Manolo Blahnik - we need Merrells! The following 100 items (5 at a time) are what I believe are the essentials every stylish Southern Girl should own!

1. A-Line Dress
I don't think the average girl wears a lot of dresses day to day. Dresses to me say special occasion or church. If you don't have an A-line Dress - do not run out and shop for one. But if you are at TJ Maxx (where I picked up my fabulous Black and White Calvin Klein jersey-knit A-line) and you see an A-line shape grab it and take it to the dressing room. It is the perfect all-occasion "just in case" dress and it is very very forgiving. If you have gained 5 or 10 pounds this dress doesn't care, if you are post holidays and pre diet, this dress will love you and you will love it. Wear it with black tights and black boots and you are looking very chic! The shape of this dress starts out narrower on the top and flares out gently toward the bottom. It should not look like at tent hanging on you, and I believe the perfect length is just above the knee. Do not be discouraged if the ones you try on are too long - it can be hemmed easily or inexpensively. At 5'0" I'm an old pro at hemming! Buy it in black and it can double as your LBD. This is an item that you don't need to spend a lot on but shop around until you find one that is a good quality material in a basic/neutral color and price range that you can afford. ($$)

2. Animal Print
Right now I'm on the lookout for a good leopard print headband. Animal print is good in small amounts only! I like animal print. I've got the shoes and a few sweaters to show for it. It's fun to wear and can make you feel a little wild when paired with an otherwise boring outfit. It a combination of Rock N Roll and Sophistication. Giraffe print is in style right now - but be sure to not become a fashion victim. Buying the latest fad is only a good thing if it conicides with your own personal tastes and style. You don't necessarily have to spend a lot of cash to get the desired effect of animal print. ($)

3. Hiking Boot
I like the idea of an ankle bootie, but do not consider it an essential item. This is an item that I disagree with Nina on. I do consider the hiking boot an essential item though! I love my Merrell hiking boots - I've got two pair. A girl has to have a rugged boot to walk through the woods in. City girls have their concrete jungle and Southern Girls have hiking trails. My favorite are the Buffalo River hiking trails!!! If you don't have a good fitting hiking boot go shopping now. They are perfect of course for hiking but also very good for running errands, yard work, walks outside, wearing to work as appropriate, playing in the snow, you name it! Be prepared to shop around and try them on and to spend a hundred dollars or more for a good pair that will last. Vibram soles are good for shock absorption and gortex is good for letting moisture out and not letting it in. Water proof is not the same as water resistant!($$$)

4. Aviators
To me sunglasses are an investment piece. There are a lot of cheap faddish sunglasses out there and I am the first to admit I have a few. But year after year, day-in day-out, aviators will look good and be "in-style". The classic brand for aviators are Ray-Ban and they run about $100+. My aviator style sunglasses are actually Army issue Pilot's Sunglasses made by American Optical and cost about $40; and once I got them the big black ones I was wearing haven't made it back on my face since. ($$)

5. Ballet Flat
I love ballet flats. I know petite girls aren't supposed to but they are feminine and comfortable. Feel free to have as many as you want in many colors and styles. I've got a great black pair and a leopard pair. I'm searching for a great red pair. You can spend a little on a pair at target or spend a lot on a pair you love. ($$)

Slickdeal

on Friday, January 23, 2009

This is my most recent slickdeal! A 2GB MP3 player for $15. I got it to basically leave in my car - I can listen to it through my car stereo. I have an 2GB ipod nano but it is a pain in the butt to change the music on it. No software required for this one, just copy/paste. My previous slickdeal was a Cabellas jacket for $4.88; I bought it in three different colors because it was such a good deal! I'll see what I can do about getting a picture of them on here too.

A Disquiet Follows My Soul

I have ordered a new blackberry from Amazon. It cost 1 cent and has a $75 rebate. I just had to renew for 2 more years. No biggie, I cannot imagine the day I will not have a cell phone. I understand why Barack Hussein Obama II can't do with out his.
So recently my phone has been giving me fits about sending multimedia messages (MMS). This is how I have been sending all the lovely and and easy blog posts. I tried to send one last night and it kept giving me an error with a big red X .
UPDATE: I just took the battery out, waited a few minutes, and put it back in, (a full system reset) and then resent the MMS and it worked. And just so you know I adjusted the day and time on the post for when I meant to send it the first time.
That's my excuse for not posting everyday right now.
Guess What. BSG is on again tonight!!! "A Disquiet Follows My Soul" is the title and the description is "Adama's proposal for a Cylon alliance is met by fierce resistance."

on Wednesday, January 21, 2009

We all went to Gusano's for pizza Wednesday night. It was gooooooood!

"Screen Time"

on Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I was worried about the amount of time that Lexa seemed to mindlessly watch TV so I did a little online research. The AAP recommends that children 2 years and up only watch 1 to 2 hours of TV a day! Let's just say that she got a lot more than that on a normal Saturday. This week we have started to scale it down to the recommended 2 hours. So now when she does get to watch her favorite show of Little Bear or Little Einsteins she actually pays attention. By the way the AAP recommends no TV for children under 2. Logan doesn't really have much of an interest in it right now but it surprise me how much he will try to look at the TV.

The Most Comfy Spot...

Is sitting on daddy!

Paint

Lexa loves to paint! Almost as much as daddy.

Front Door

on Saturday, January 17, 2009

We upped our curb appeal today and we don't even have any curbs! We got a good deal on a new front door and went for it. Our old door was a plain fiberglas door that we attempted to stain and it turned out just awful, so we ended up just painting it to cover up the poor staining. We were never quite happy with it but it wasn't bad enough that we couldn't live with it. That something you have to deal with occasionally when you build your own house. We always thought that a front door could easily be replaced later, and would give us time to shop around and find something we really liked. Like this one! It let's in a lot of light and it is a beautiful mahogany color with the arched glass that goes well with all the othe arches in our house.

Little Man

on Friday, January 16, 2009

Logan wanted to dress up in his blue jeans this morning. I think he might have a crush on his teacher.
He's getting so big and so cute!!!

The 5th Is Among Us

Battlestar Galactica is our favorite show and tonight is the first episode of the final season. I am very excited about this. Anyone else out there a geek like us?
Starbuck is my favorite character and soon enough we will see if she is the 5th Cylon.
Of course it could be Gaius.

I think it could also be Lee Adama.

It is really cold out there!

on Thursday, January 15, 2009

It is 11 degrees outside.
This is a picture of our front yard from the porch.

Full Night's Sleep

on Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Last night Logan slept all night through!!! He has slept for about 6 hours at a time before this but last night he went to bed at 8PM and I had to wake him at 6AM this morning to feed him. I'm hoping he does the same thing tonight! That was the first full night of sleep I have gotten in at least 6 months; the last 3 months of being preggers and the previous 3 months of him waking up every 3 hours to eat.
Our family has such a hectic schedule! We wake up at 6am and we are all at daycare and work by 8am; I usually take my lunch hour to go feed Logan; I leave work at 5PM and the kids and I make it home around 6PM; then I feed Logan. Logan will usually eat one more time to get his belly full before he goes to bed at 8PM; Lexa goes to bed at 9PM. Lance and I go to bed at 10:30 or earlier depending how tired we are. The hardest part of our schedule is getting dinner in there somewhere. I can usually get caught up on laundry and cleaning on the weekend, but getting everyone a good dinner is the biggest challenge of my entire day. Anyone have similar problems? Does anyone have any suggestions? We eat a lot of leftovers because when I do cook, I cook enough to feed an army!

Sleeping Baby

on Tuesday, January 13, 2009

We got to noticing that Logan needs more pictures on the blog! And I wanted to send another moble post! He is such a cute sweet baby!

My first mobile blog

Now I can blog from anywhere!!! This will make my new years resolution a lot easier! I am sending this from my blackberry phone even though I am sitting in front of my computer! Yeah technology!

The Most Amazing Game. Ever.

A week ago I got some crazy good tickets to the game of the year (so far.) 4th row up from the floor. Yeah, I know. This was the best single sporting event I have ever attended!

New Year's Resolution - retroactive

on Monday, January 12, 2009

I haven't really made any new year's resolutions this year, except lose the baby weight but I was going to do that anyway. But now that I've posted on my blog again, I've decided that it is going to be my resolution to blog everyday. (Why do I do this to myself?)

Josslyn Paige

Welcome Josslyn Paige to our family!!! There are lots of cousins for you to play with and soon you will find out that your family is nuttier than squirrel poop! Congratulations to Mike and Cyndy for their new baby girl! Congratulations to Wes for becoming a big brother!

Pictures I didn't take

on Sunday, January 11, 2009

Christy took these, so I can't take any credit.

Back At It

I guess everyone has been wondering if I was ever going to blog again. Well, so was I.
Logan was born October 3rd!!! He is the sweetest baby - not a bit of colic with this one!!! (yeah!) More on him later because he certainly deserves his own post.

Lexa likes to put her sunglasses on in a very unique way. This was taken back in September - she no longer uses her paci unless she is sleeping at home. And right now we are working on potty training.

We had a wonderful Christmas and hope you and your family did too. More bloggin to come to catch everyone up so stay tuned!
